Operation Guide (ETW)

Overview

This EP1plus System (ETW) for Florida State Daycares was designed to meet the state specific requirements for electronic child check systems on daycares. Below you will find the schematic as well as key operational features and additional support information to assist with your installation.

Although this article references this system as Florida specific the system can be used anywhere that does not require alternate functionality (i.e. state specific operation like California).

Key Software Features

Activation

  • The system will activate automatically after the ignition has been turned ON.

Deactivation

  • The system will deactivate in the key OFF position.

Time to Perform the Child Check

  • You will have an 1 minute to perform the child check.

Horn

  • If the child check is not performed, the horn will sound for 5 minutes.

Ignition ON

When the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position an ♪ Ignition tone ♪ is heard indicating the system is ready for operation.

Activation

The system automatically activates after the ignition key is in the ON position, a single tone is heard when activation occurs.  

Deactivation

  1. Close entrance door
  2. Turn key to ♪ OFF position  ♪
  3. Walk to the rear of the bus and conduct a thorough inspection of your vehicle.
    1. The driver has 1 minute to perform child check 
  4. Depress the deactivation button and hold for 2 to 3 seconds.
    1. The systems will confirm deactivation with the ♪ deactivation tone ♪.

Horn Will Sound...

  • When the system is not deactivated within 1 minute of the key being positioned in the ignition 'OFF'.
  • When the accessory feature times out (4 minutes). 
  • When Road Crossing feature times out after 10 minutes.

Silencing the Alarm

These steps do not deactivate the system.  This will cancel the alarm and reset the EP1plus back into the activated state.

  1. Turn Ignition ‘ON’ for 2 seconds.
  2. Turn Ignition back to ‘OFF'. 
    1. Complete child check and deactivate the system

Road Crossing Feature

This feature allows a driver to turn the vehicle off and remove the key from the ignition for a maximum period of 10 minutes without deactivating the system. This feature allows a driver to turn the vehicle off and remove the key from the ignition to assist the loading or unloading of children or to perform escort duties or assist special needs passengers.

  1. Activate 8-way overhead lights (or other 12V activation source).
  2. Remove the key from the ignition and perform escort duties.
  3. Insert the key back into the ignition and turn to the 'ON' position.
  4. Deactivate 8-way overhead lights and continue on your route.
To utilize this feature, it is recommended that the Brown Wire (6-PH Wire #5) be connected to the 8-way overhead lights.
The system is still active and requires that the driver conduct their child check and deactivation of the system end of their run. 

Optional Features

Dome (Interior) Lights 

  • Dome lights will illuminate when the front door is open.
  • Dome lights will illuminate during the child check period.
  • Dome lights will flash twice to confirm deactivation.
  • Dome lights will illuminate for 1 minute after deactivation.

Accessory Feature (loading and unloading)

This is an optional feature and requires that your technician connect the system to an accessory power source. The accessory feature was designed to accommodate loading and unloading when the engine is not permitted to be running. The accessory power source will provide the driver 2 minutes for unloading passengers. This can be extended by cycling the key from 'ACC' to ‘OFF’ back to 'ACC' when the driver hears the ♪ warning tones ♪. This process can be repeated as needed.

The system is still active and requires that the driver conduct their Child Check and deactivation of the system end of their run.
