Key Software Features
Overview
This EP1plus System (ETO) for North Carolina was designed to meet the state specific requirements for electronic child check systems for children left unattended on a school bus. Below you will find the schematic as well as key operational features and additional support information to assist with your installation.
Activation
- The system will activate by use of the 8-way overhead lights OR another 12V source.
Deactivation
- The system will deactivate in the key OFF position.
Time to Perform the Child Check
- So long as the door remains closed during the deactivation process, you will have unlimited to perform the child check.
Horn
- If the child check is not performed, the horn will sound for 5 minutes.
Door
- The door is monitored during deactivation and if opened before the child check is complete the horn will sound (no delay trigger, requires door closure & key cycle if triggered).
- If the front door is opened during deactivation, you will need to shut the door and cycle the key to cancel the alarm.
Optional Features
Accessory Time
- The driver can sit with the key in the accessory position for 4 minutes and can extend that time by cycling the key.
Dome Lights
- The dome lights will illuminate and remain on for 2 minute after the child check has been completed.
- The dome lights will flash 2 times to confirm deactivation.
Ignition ON
When the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position the ♪ ignition tone ♪ is heard indicating the system is ready for operation.
Activation
The system will auto-activate after when the 8-way overhead lights are activated or with another 12V source.
Deactivation
When you are finished your route,
- Close the passenger entrance door
- Turn the key to the ♪ 'OFF' position ♪ .
- Walk to the rear of the vehicle and conduct a thorough inspection of your vehicle.
- The driver has unlimited time to perform the child check so long as the door remains closed.
- Depress the rear deactivation button and hold for 3 seconds.
- The system will confirm deactivation with the ♪ deactivation tone ♪.
- Dome lights will illuminate for 2 minutes after deactivation.
Horn Will Sound...
- When the door is open or opened during the deactivation phase.
- When the accessory feature times out (2 minutes).
- When Road Crossing feature times out after 10 minutes.
Silencing the Horn
These steps do not deactivate the system. This will cancel the alarm and reset the EP1plus back into the activated state.
- Turn Ignition ‘ON’ for 2 seconds.
- Turn Ignition back to ‘OFF'.
- Complete child check and deactivate the system
Road Crossing Feature
This feature allows a driver to turn the vehicle off and remove the key from the ignition for a maximum period of 10 minutes without deactivating the system. This feature allows a driver to turn the vehicle off and remove the key from the ignition to assist the loading or unloading of children or to perform escort duties or assist special needs passengers.
- Activate 8-way overhead lights (or other 12V activation source).
- Remove the key from the ignition and perform escort duties.
- Insert the key back into the ignition and turn to the 'ON' position.
- Deactivate 8-way overhead lights and continue on your route.
Optional Features
Dome (Interior) Lights
- Dome lights will illuminate during the child check period.
- Dome lights will flash twice to confirm deactivation.
- Dome lights will illuminate for 2 minute after deactivation.
Accessory Feature
This is an optional feature and requires that your technician connect the system to an 'ACC' power source. The accessory feature was designed to accommodate loading and unloading when the engine is not permitted to be running. The accessory power source will provide the driver 2 minutes for unloading passengers. This can be extended by cycling the key from 'ACC' to ‘OFF’ back to 'ACC' when the driver hears the ♪ warning tones ♪. This process can be repeated as needed.
