Updated by Jennifer

Overview

This EP2plus TTR Theft-Mate System & GPS utilizes the fundamental Child Check reminder principle of our EP1plus with the addition of audible instruction through an external speaker, motion sensor and GPS capabilities. This software was developed to meet specific program requirements for the state of California and SB-172. Below you will find key operational features, additional support information and the schematic to assist with your operation and/or installation.

  • The motion sensor begins scanning the vehicle 1 minute after deactivation and continuously scans the vehicle until the driver returns.

GPS

  • The GPS capability is enabled and can connect to third-party GPS providers.

Activation

The EP2plus TTR Theft-Mate & GPS System will auto-activate after 5 seconds of the ignition being 'ON', or when the overhead lights are applied whichever comes first. Manual activation will be confirmed with "Child Check Mate is now Activated" - which can be heard from the speaker.

Brown Wire (6-PH Wire #5) must be connected to the 8-way overhead lights.

Deactivation

  1. Close all floor level doors (emergency, front and rear doors).
  2. Apply vehicle handbrake.
  3. Position the ignition Key to 'OFF.'
    1.   You will hear "Please conduct your child search now."
  4. Walk to the rear of the vehicle and conduct a thorough inspection of your vehicle.
    1. The driver has 3 minutes to perform the child check, so long as the door remains closed.
  5. Depress the rear deactivation button and hold for 3 seconds.
    1. You will hear the deactivation tone followed by "Child Check-Mate is now deactivated"
If the ignition is turned ‘OFF’ and any of the floor level doors are opened prior to deactivating the system the horn will engage immediately. To silence the horn close all floor level doors and position the key to 'ON'.  Repeat the deactivation sequence. If the following warning tone is heard when the key is cycled back to the ON position it identifies a problem in the door circuit. The vehicle maintenance department must be notified immediately.
If the ignition is turned to the 'OFF" position prior to applying the parking brake (IF the parking brake was connected), this warning tone is heard for 5 seconds and then the will horn will sound.  If you have our external speaker you will hear "please engage parking brake." Cycle key back to the 'ON' position and repeat the deactivation sequence.

  • Dome lights will activate with ignition ‘ON’ for 20 seconds.
  • Dome lights will illuminate during the Child Check.
  • Dome lights will remain on for 1 minute after deactivation.

Horn Will Sound...

  • When the ignition is 'OFF' and the entrance door is open or opened prior to deactivation.
  • When the ignition is 'OFF' and the parking brake is not applied.
  • When the system is not deactivated within 3 minutes of ignition 'OFF'.
  • When the accessory feature times out (4 minutes).
  • When the road crossing feature times out (10 minutes).

Silencing the Alarm

These steps do not deactivate the system.  This will cancel the alarm and reset the EP2plus back into the activated state.

  1. Turn Ignition ‘OFF’ for 2 seconds.
  2. Turn Ignition back to ‘ON'.

Road Crossing Feature

This feature allows a driver to turn the vehicle off and remove the key from the ignition for a maximum period of 10 minutes without deactivating the system.

  1. Activate 8-way overhead lights (or other 12V activation source).
  2. Remove the key from the ignition and perform escort duties.
  3. Insert the key back into the ignition and turn to the 'ON' position.
  4. Deactivate 8-way overhead lights (or other 12V activation source) and continue on your route.
To utilize this feature, it is recommended that the Brown Wire (6-PH Wire #5) be connected to the 8-way overhead lights.
The system is still active and requires that the driver conduct their child check and deactivation of the system end of their run.

Motion Sensor Operation

The EP2plus TTR is equipped with a motion sensor which starts scanning the interior of the bus 60 seconds after deactivation. The motion sensor has three primary functions.

  1. Double-Check: If motion is detected within the first 60 minutes after deactivation the following message will be heard from the speaker  "Please sit down some will be here shortly" and the horn will go off for a maximum time of 5 minutes. The system assumes that a child has been left unattended.
  2. Theft-Mate: If the motion sensor detects movement on the bus 60 minutes after deactivation it assumes an intruder has entered the bus and the following message will be heard from the speaker "Leave Vehicle now authorities notified" the horn will not go off.
  3. Driver Security: If the Child Double-Check or Theft-Mate alert is triggered the following message will be heard from the speaker the next time the ignition key is turned to the 'ON' position. "Warning check for unauthorized entry".

GPS I/O Connections

  1. Theft-Mate Trigger: If motion is detected within the Double Check period, the system will send a high signal to the third-party device to then trigger an alert (eg. text or email) to the appropriate personnel.
  2. Tamperproof: If the child check system is unplugged child check sends a signal to the third-party device to then trigger an alert (eg. text or email) to the appropriate personnel.

Accessory Feature

The accessory feature was designed to accommodate loading and unloading when the engine is not permitted to be running.  The accessory power source will provide the driver 4 minutes for unloading passengers. This can be extended by cycling the key to the ‘OFF’ position and back to 'accessory' position when the driver hears the following instruction:  "To continue waiting, please cycle your key." This process can be repeated as needed.

To utilize this feature, ensure that the White/Orange Wire (3-PH) must be connected to Accessory power.

Charter Mode

Charter Mode is a function that can be used when a driver is performing a school or charter trip and wants to remain on the bus while waiting for the group to return.

“Charter Mode” ONLY controls the motion sensor. The CCM must be “DEACTIVATED” first. Charter Mode can be activated at any time as long as CCM is not “ACTIVE”.
  1. To place the Motion Sensor in “Charter Mode” turn the key from OFF to “ON” position.
  2. Go to the back of the bus and “PRESS” the RVT “RED” button holding it until you hear the chirping sounds and “Charter mode Is now activated” message coming from the speaker.
  3. Turn the key to the “OFF” position. You may now move freely in the bus.
Charter Mode will stay in effect for a maximum of 3 hours.
If you'll be on the bus for longer than 3 hours you will need to repeat the procedure to re-activate “Charter Mode” for another 3 hours.
