Questions to ask CCM or Other System Providers

This applies to the California Spec only.
  1. Does your system connect to all of the floor-level doors?
    1. All systems in California must connect to all floor-level doors.
  2. Does your system connect to the parking brake?
    1. The parking brake must be engaged prior to deactivating the system. All of our California Systems can monitor the parking brake. If you choose not to make this connection, our systems can accommodate that as well. Please read the article on " Must I Connect The Parking Brake" to gain more knowledge on this matter.
  3. Can you send me operational information for California?
    1. This should give you an idea of the provider's preparedness. You should also check that the operation guide meets the published California Highway Patrol Specification:  SB 1072 Updates
  4. Can you send me schematics or installation information?
    1. This should also give you an idea of the provider's preparedness. You should give this information (as well as the published California Highway Patrol Specification:  SB 1072 Updates) to your technicians and installer for review.
  5. Can you send me a sample system?
    1. This is always a good idea. Many providers may not have samples available for a few weeks (in our experience, information around the spec has not been very clear). We also recommend installing and testing that system before purchasing.
  6. Does your system have a manual override?
    1. According to Title 13 section (C), "Upon movement of the vehicle, the child safety alert system shall automatically activate. The device need not activate for the first 3 minutes of vehicle movement or prior to the time the vehicle reaches a speed of 10 miles per hours, which ever occurs first." If the system you're interested in has an override (ex. leaving the door ajar to avoid activating the system), it may not comply with the CHP specification. Call your local CHP inspector for clarification.
  7. Does your provider have on going technical support?
    1. This should give an idea of the providers ability to support you after you've made the purchase. On-going technical support is a huge asset to your mechanics and sometimes even your drivers. We recommend asking your provider if they have support.
