NOT Recommended: RVT Button Direct Connections
Overview
Some of our customers have used different methods to connect to their GPS, DVR, or other third-party systems. We always welcome new and innovative ways to integrate with your other technologies and welcome those discussions. Please get in touch if you have a novel idea - your next purchase could be on us!
Reasoning
One example is connecting the RVT deactivation button directly to your GPS system. We really do not recommend this and here's why:
- The RVT Deactivation Button's signal is modulated. Your system may not consistently recognize this signal.
- Each time the RVT Deactivation Button is depressed, it will send the modulated signal to your GPS system. Our systems have logic built in that interprets what different button depressions mean (for example, each time a child presses the button it is ignored). By connecting directly to the button, your GPS will receive that modulated signal. So, your other technology will display each time:
- A child or passenger depresses the button.
- A system is put into charter mode.
- If you have a standard installation, your other technology may also confuse the use of emergency exits with the deactivation button being depressed.
- Depressing the button does not mean the system is deactivated: CCM's systems all have logic built in that requires that certain conditions are met during deactivation. In some cases, this is required to meet state specifications.
- Connecting to third-party devices in this manner may void your warranty.
What CCM Recommends
Connect your EP2, EP2plus, or CM3 system to your GPS / DVR / other third-party technology by using the 5-Pin Wire Harness and the correct software that will deliver a signal to your other device(s) upon system deactivation. CCM provides instruction for each software version on exactly which wires are configured to deliver each output.
