CA - Installation Options: DIY & Others

When it comes to installation, there are three possible options:

Do It For Me (DIFM)

You may not have the time or the technicians to get the installations completed on time, on your own. You can reach out to experienced installers for support. CCM doesn’t provide installation services, but there are several fantastic installers out there. If you like, we can provide a list of possible installers for you to consider: #LINK request installer information.

We recommend that your technician keep themselves very well informed and engaged with the installations. In our experience, this saves a TON of time in the long run: it saves your technicians from having to call up the installer to troubleshooting or quick-fixes.

When choosing an installer, it is desirable to choose a provider who has experience installing CCM for your state / provincial / regional specifications.

Do It With Me (DIWM)

If you have the time and technicians to do your own installation but have a tight timeline, this option can get you on track right from the beginning. We also like this option if your state / provincial / regional specification requires a more involved installation (here’s looking at you, California).

An experienced installer may already know some spectacular time-saving techniques and approaches. They’re probably experts in testing, validating and troubleshooting installations, and they can probably answer your questions before you can even type your question into the search bar at the top of this page.

Do It Yourself (DIY)

If you employ a qualified technician (or if you are one yourself), you can certainly complete your own installation. In fact, Child Check-Mate System has the opinion that if your technician(s) will need to be maintaining and troubleshooting these systems, they should be involved in at least a few installs.

Most installations are very straightforward to an experienced school bus technician. In fact, we've had more than 300,000 systems installed over the past 2 decades. Our very own Allan Lowe still holds the record at 14 minutes - way back in the late 1990's. It is important to note that different specifications and vehicle types will impact the installation time and complexity, so be sure to check your local regulations before you start.

As always, California is quite a unique installation, and we'd encourage customers to thoroughly review the CA installation and to consider DIFM or DIWM options.
